Countesthorpe Judo Club was established in 2002.

It was founded by Sensei Jim Oram, Sensei Paula Oram and Sensei Kathy Tranter

The aim at that time was to provide a much needed activity for the local community.

Today it has trained hundreds of people, producing over 45 National Champions and International medalists.

Judo is a martial art that will improve fitness, It can help children with their concentration and to become more focused. It develops both leadership and teamwork skills. It will help to build confidence and self esteem and will help with balance and coordination. Judo will also help with disipline.

Judo is a fun and exciting activity that was founded by Jigoro Kano in 1882 in Tokyo, Japan.

Judo techniques come mainly from the ancient martial art of Ju-Jitsu and in English the word Judo means the “Gentle or supple way”.

However, please note that Judo involves throwing techniques, groundwork fighting, arm locks and strangle holds, which may not be suitable for everyone.
